We are blessed by our diverse group of primary suppliers and our supporters.
The Canadian Wholesale Club continues to be the best place for us to buy most of our staple items. We take advantage of sales at grocery outlets. For Good Measure provides, at wholesale cost, some of our dried seeds and grains.
We receive donated bread from Wildfire Bakery and Cobs Bread.
We receive a steady stream of wonderful food donations from various faith groups' food drives and Shoppers Drug Mart. We partner with Soap for Hope which recycles hotel soaps and shampoos for a variety of personal hygiene products. Gatton Farms provides beautiful fresh farm produce throughout the summer to give to our guests. And some of our volunteers canvas other retailers for special donations from time to time.
Finally, we are members of the Food Rescue Project, organized by the Food Share Network. As a result, in early 2017, we started to see rescued fruit and vegetables coming our way from Thrifty Foods, and now other grocery chains are participating and include protein and dairy products as well. Food Bank volunteer drivers pick up boxes of rescued food from the Food Share Network Warehouse each distribution day.
Almost sixty percent of our operational funding comes from the parishioners of St. John the Divine through donations. The remaining support comes from fundraising efforts and from the wider community.
